Herbert Franz

Herbert Franz (born October 7, 1936 in Würzburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After an apprenticeship as a machinist, Franz, who is a Roman Catholic , studied engineering. He worked for the Koenig und Bauer company in Würzburg, where he had been a works council since 1961. From 1969 he was Chairman of the Works Council at Plant II and from 1972 to 1980 he was Deputy Chairman of the General Works Council. From 1980 to 1984 he worked as managing director of the IG Metall administration office in Würzburg. From 1992 to 2008 he was district chairman of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in Lower Franconia , which then elected him honorary chairman. He is currently the deputy state chairman of the workers' welfare organization.

Political party

Franz joined the SPD in 1962. From 1967 to 1969 he was in charge of the Juso sub-district of Würzburg. From 1974 he was district chairman of the SPD Würzburg-Land, after having previously been deputy district chairman since 1967. He is now honorary chairman of the district association. From 1979 to 1994 he was a member of the party council of the Federal SPD.

MP

From 1972 to 1978 Franz was a member of the district council in the Würzburg district . From April 21, 1981, when he replaced Friedrich Cremer , until 1998 Franz was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament . From 1990 to 1998 he was a secretary of the state parliament presidium. From July 10, 1996, until he left Parliament, he was Deputy Chairman of the State Budget and Financial Affairs Committee.
