Herbert Gruber (born November 9, 1942 in Cologne , Germany ) is a former Austrian bobsleigh driver . Together with Reinhold Durnthaler , Josef Eder and Erwin Thaler , he took part in the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble . The team won the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh , while the second team with Manfred Hofer , Karl Pichler , Hans Ritzl and Fritz Dinkhauser only finished 13th.

Gruber had already competed with Paul Aste , Andreas Arnold and Hans Stoll at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 and achieved a 7th place there. In 1967 he won the silver medal at the European Championships with the Reinhold Durnthaler, Erwin Thaler and Adolf Koxeder team; the world championships were not held this year because the temperatures were too high. At the Bobsleigh World Championships in 1971 in Cervinia , Italy , he won the bronze medal together with Josef Oberhauser .

He competed again at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , where he was only able to achieve a 6th and an 8th place in the two competitions with Josef Eder , Utz Chwalla and Josef Oberhauser .

At the Bobsleigh World Championships in 1975 in Cervinia he achieved 4th place together with Johann Schüssling , Gerd Zaunschirm and Fritz Sperling .
