Herbert H. Turner
Herbert Hall Turner (born August 13, 1861 in Leeds , † August 20, 1930 in Stockholm ) was a British astronomer and seismologist .
Turner worked as the principal assistant at the Royal Greenwich Observatory for nine years . In 1893 he took over the Savilian Chair of Astronomy at Oxford . In 1897 he was elected to the Royal Society . From 1908 he was a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .
He coined the term “ Parsec ”.
In 1927 he was awarded the Bruce Medal . The lunar crater Turner and the asteroid (1186) Turnera were named after him.
