Herbert J. Cummings

Herbert J. Cummings (born September 2, 1915 in Knox Dale , Jefferson County , Pennsylvania , † December 14, 2000 ) was an American economist .

Life

Herbert J. Cummings made his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1937 and his master's degree in economics from Northwestern University in Evanston in 1940 . He was on the faculty of the Department of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the United States Department of State and was transferred to the consulate in Istanbul .

At the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force , he was a political delegate. As a trade councilor, he was with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in Geneva and with Allen Welsh Dulles in Bern . In 1944 he was with Samuel Klaus from the Foreign Economic Administration ( FEA ) on a fact-finding mission for the SAFEHAVEN project ( economic war ) in neutral and non-belligerent Europe. He led US trade missions in Athens , Ankara and Lagos . He created an investment-friendly climate among East African governments. He helped identify needs and provided management training for East African governments. He was head of the Africa-Middle East Division at the United States Department of Commerce . In 1961 he headed the US trade association Changing Trade Patterns in a Changing Africa .
