Herbert J. Kaufmann

Herbert Josef Kaufmann (born June 10, 1924 in Frankfurt am Main , †  April 15, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German radiologist .

Life

At the age of four, Kaufmann and his family moved to Basel . In Basel and Geneva he completed his studies and assistantship in the fields of internal medicine , anatomy and pediatric surgery . In 1951, he was with a thesis on The cecum mobile childhood doctorate . From 1952 to 1955 and in 1960/61 he was a businessman in Boston . In 1963 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on X-ray findings on the child's pelvis in congenital skeletal disorders and chromosomal aberrations . From 1965 to 1971 he headed the X-ray department of the University Children's Clinic in Basel, where he was appointed adjunct professor in 1970 .

In 1971 Herbert J. Kaufmann went to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as chief radiologist , and in 1977 he accepted a visiting professorship in Paris . In 1979 he was appointed professor at the Free University of Berlin , where, until his retirement in 1992, he headed the Department of Pediatric Radiology at the University Children's Clinic of the Kaiserin-Auguste-Viktoria-Haus at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital .

Kaufmann was one of the founding members of the European Society of Pediatric Radiology (ESPR) , of which he was President in 1966/67, and of the Society for Pediatric Radiology (GPR) .
