Herbert Koller (Manager)

Herbert Koller (born July 19, 1911 in Wösendorf , Lower Austria ; † April 27, 1995 in Krems an der Donau ) was an Austrian manager and General Director of VÖEST from 1961 to 1977 .

Life

Koller attended the Stiftsgymnasium Melk , where he was one of the best students. He then studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1934. He was first a research assistant at the university, then secretary of the industrialists' association in St. Pölten . During the time of National Socialism , Koller was a member of the SS and advanced to the position of Untersturmführer . From 1938 to 1944 he was a consultant at the Reich Labor Administration in Vienna and Graz , and in the spring of 1944 he was transferred to the Reich Security Main Office. From 1944 he served in the Navy and from 1945 to 1947 he was a British prisoner of war.

He came to VÖEST in 1949 as a clerk, until 1955 he worked his way up to the works director of the Krems ironworks . In 1961 he finally became general manager of the entire group. He made particular contributions to the reconstruction and restructuring of the nationalized steel industry. After his retirement he was a functionary of the Chamber of Commerce . In 1980 he was appointed to the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank , from 1981 to 1988 he was its 1st Vice-President.

Koller was an honorary senator of the Johannes Kepler University Linz .
