Herbert Schimetschek

Herbert Schimetschek (born January 5, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian manager .

Life

Schimetschek is the oldest son of Dr. Bruno and Trude Schimetschek. He attended school in Lower Austria and Vienna, there last until 1956 the academic high school . In 1956 he began to study law at the University of Vienna , and from 1957 he was already working for the Austria mutual insurance company , where he was made head of department in 1964 and general secretary in 1967 and received power of attorney. He set up branches in Italy for the insurance company. He has been a member of the board since 1970, and in 1977 became its chairman and general director. From 1974 to 1999 he was a member of the board of Austria Österreichische Versicherung Aktiengesellschafton, from 1977 as its chairman and general director. From 1991 to 1996 he was President and CEO of Austria-Collegialität Insurance from 1997 to 1999, he was President and CEO of BARC Versicherungs-Holding AG and the German states insurance , which under his leadership to UNIQA Versicherungen AG were merged and their line from 1999 to December 2001 he was Chairman of the Board and General Manager. From 1997 to 2000 he was President of the European Insurance Association (CEA), of which he had already been a member of the Presidential Council. Until June 2000 he was President, most recently as Vice President of the management of the Association of Insurance Companies in Austria.

He has been a member of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank since 1986 and has been Vice President since 1998.

On May 25, 2003, Schimetschek was appointed the new chairman ( president ) of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank ; he held the office until August 31, 2008.

During the period of his activity, the integration of the European financial market and the expansion of the European Union fell. He reformed the work of the bank by increasing efficiency while using less resources and has received several awards for this.

In 1993 he received the Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria and in 1997 he received the Great Gold Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria and on January 9, 2008, he received the Great from Wilhelm Molterer for his services to the Austrian insurance industry Gold medal of honor with the star for services to the Republic of Austria .

Schimetschek has held numerous mandates in the course of his professional life, including on the supervisory boards of Bank Gutmann , Strabag SE and Erste Bank .

Schimetschek is married to Therese Schimetschek, geb. Estienney, and has two children.
