Herbert Schumann

Herbert Schumann (born August 6, 1935 in Coburg ; † January 12, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German chemist who mainly dealt with organometallic compounds . Schumann was a professor of inorganic chemistry at the TU Berlin for a long time .

Life

Herbert Schumann studied from 1954 to 1962 chemistry at the University of Munich and was there with a thesis on "cleavage reactions of organometallic compounds with sulfur, selenium and tellurium" at the 1962 Max Schmidt doctorate . During his studies he became a member of the Munich fraternity of Cimbria in the winter semester of 1954/55 .

He then went to the University of Marburg as a research assistant and from 1965 to the University of Würzburg . In 1967 he completed his habilitation in Würzburg for the subject of inorganic chemistry and was a university lecturer there until 1970. In 1970 he was appointed to Chair III for Inorganic Chemistry at the TU Berlin, where he taught until his retirement. In 1980 he turned down an offer at the University of Dortmund. In 2003 he retired from the TU Berlin and for a while, until the first half of 2004, he represented his chair until it was filled again.

Schumann edited numerous volumes of Gmelin's Handbook of Inorganic Chemistry , especially on organotin compounds.

Wolf-Walther du Mont - Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the TU Braunschweig - is an academic student of Herbert Schumann.
