Herbert Simoleit

Herbert Simoleit (born May 22, 1908 in Berlin ; † November 13, 1944 in Halle ) was a German Roman Catholic priest , resistance fighter against National Socialism and a martyr .

Life

After a childhood in economic hardship, Herbert Simoleit attended the seminary in Fulda at the age of 25 and was ordained a priest in 1939. He then worked as a chaplain, first in Greifswald , then from 1941 in Stettin . He was spied on by the Gestapo there with others during intimate conversations in which they had openly expressed their opinion about the Nazi regime and was then arrested on the night of February 4 to 5, 1943 (“Stettin case”).

He was executed on November 13, 1944 with Provikar Carl Lampert and Father Friedrich Lorenz on the grounds: " Decomposition of the military and radio crimes " and, in one case, "Enemy favor" .
