Heribert Bettscheider

Heribert Bettscheider SVD (born May 15, 1938 in Wiesbach (Saar) , † December 11, 2007 in Sankt Augustin ) was a German Catholic theologian .

Life

The fourth of five boys attended the Arnold-Janssen-Gymnasium St. Wendel , where he also graduated from high school on March 21, 1957 . Together with 20 students, he entered the novitiate in St. Gabriel ( Mödling near Vienna ) . On September 8, 1959, he took his first vows and began studying philosophy .

He was then sent to the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome to study theology . On September 8, 1962, he made his perpetual vows and on February 16, 1964 he was ordained a priest in the Chapel of the Terziates in Nemi . In the same year he was able to complete his theological studies with a licentiate . The General Administration asked him to continue his studies up to a doctorate, which he was able to finish with a doctorate on December 16, 1966. His new appointment was to be the lecturer for dogmatics in Sankt Augustin, where he immediately helped out in the novitiate as a partner of the novice master . The subject of fundamental theology was soon added, which remained his major until his retirement . In addition, he gave an abundance of seminars and special lectures on questions of mission theology . His teaching activities also took him to Cologne , Wuppertal , Siegen and Indonesia (summer 1994).

He was secretary of the PTH University SVD St. Augustin , then from 1971 to 1980 its rector . From 1980 to 1986 he was Vice Provincial of the North German Province, 1986–1995 Rector of the Missionary Seminary , 1995–2007 Director of the Institute of Missiology in St. Augustin .
