Heribert Faßbender (born May 30, 1941 in Ratingen ) is a German sports journalist. In TV broadcasts, he always began unmistakably with the sentence 'n evening everyone ("Good evening everyone"), which became a cult through him .

Life and work

Faßbender grew up in Ratingen and passed his Abitur at the beginning of March 1960 at the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium (today Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker-Gymnasium). He studied in Munich and Cologne law . From 1963 he worked first for the radio of the West German Broadcasting Corporation and reported on games of the newly founded Bundesliga and other sporting events. He also moderated the midday magazine on WDR radio and the Wednesday broadcast on ... on the WDR television program. He also appeared as a presenter in the ARD entertainment program Spiel ohne Grenzen .

Between 1979 and 1982, Faßbender was the director of the WDR radio station in Düsseldorf . He also moderated the political program Blickpunkt Düsseldorf . From 1982 until his retirement on September 30, 2006, he was head of the sports program group at WDR television and responsible for the ARD sports show , which he moderated for 20 years.

As a sports reporter, Faßbender reported on nine Olympic Games and eight football world championships and commented on countless football games. He commented on the football world championship finals in 1974 (together with Oskar Klose ) and 1978 on the radio and on the 1998 finals on television . Then there were the European Championship finals in 1976 (together with Eberhard Stanjek ) and 1980 on radio and television in 1984 and 1992 .

Faßbender has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sportstiftung NRW since 2000 and has been a holder of the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2001 . From 2002 to 2016, Faßbender was President of the Association of West German Sports Journalists (VWS). Faßbender had a supporting role as an outside reporter in the feature film Das Millionenspiel by Tom Toelle and Wolfgang Menge .

Since March 1, 2007 he has been a member of the Shareholders' Committee of Bayer 04 Fußball GmbH .

Fassbender is married. His wife Uta was the school director in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis until summer 2010 . The Faßbender couple live in Leverkusen - Lützenkirchen .
