Herman Ricketts

Herman Emanuel Ricketts (born May 9, 1931 in Lances Bay , Hanover Parish , † July 19, 2003 ) was a Jamaican police officer . He was 1984-1991 chief of police (police commissioner) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Life

Herman Ricketts was the son of businessman Oswald Ricketts and his wife Winnifred Reid. After attending primary school in his hometown, he moved to St. George's College in Kingston .

In 1951 he joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force, where he worked from 1953 to 1969 in the field of crime investigation, most recently with the rank of detective inspector. During this time he was trained at Hendon Police College in London in 1965 , at the International Police Academy in the United States in 1968 and at the University of the West Indies in 1969 .

From 1970 to 1975 he worked in the uniformed police service, then again until 1977 in the criminal police service, and in 1976 also at Interpol in Paris . He was then used again in the uniformed police service. On December 24, 1984, his last assignment was transferred to the office of Police Commissioner. In 1991 it was retired.

Ricketts had been married to Cevel Barham since August 31, 1957. The marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter. He died in 2003 after a six-month illness.
