Basil Robinson

Basil Linton Robinson (born November 15, 1915 , † 1992 ) was a Jamaican police officer and chief of police (Police Commissioner) of the country.

Life

Robinson entered the police force in March 1935 and completed his training at Hendon Police College in England .

He was transferred to a corporal post in February 1940 and then promoted in August 1947. In January 1950 he became sergeant in August 1951 Sub-Inspector, a year later Assistant Superintendent and in June 1958 Superintendent . After Jamaica's independence, he was promoted to Senior Superintendent in December 1962, Assistant Commissioner in April 1964 and Deputy Commissioner in July 1970.

When he was appointed commissioner in 1973, he was the first native Jamaican to complete the entire police career in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), founded by the British in 1867, from the lowest rank of constable to police chief, his successor Desmond O. Campbell the second.

Under his leadership, the Police Information Center (PIC) was set up, which significantly improved police information work. This PIC later became the Constabulary Communication Network (CNN) under James Forbes. In addition, the Basil Robinson training center was set up during his tenure.

Robinson requested early retirement and retired on July 1, 1977. His marriage to his wife Kathleen Elfreda had five children. He was the great-uncle of Raymond Pryce , the MP for the northeast of Saint Elizabeth Parish .

Robinson was responsible for the Saint Catherine Parish as Custos rotulorum from 1978 until his death .
