Herman Schmidt

Herman Innozenz Schmidt (born July 28, 1930 in St. Gallen , resident in Riehen ) is a former Swiss federal judge .

Life

Family and education

A native of St. Gallen Herman Schmidt, great-grandson of Herman Greulich , son of the Social Democratic politician and editor- Franz Schmidt (1902-1947) and his wife Margaretha nee van Hasz, turned to the receipt of federal Matura studying law at the Universities of Paris , London and Zurich , where he was awarded a Dr. iur. doctorate , in the following year he was admitted to the bar of the canton of St. Gallen . The non-denominational Herman Schmidt married Sonya Brugger.

Professional background

In 1959, Herman Schmidt, who had joined the Social Democratic Party (SP), took up a position in the legal department of the Association of Swiss Consumers in Basel , in 1962 he switched to the position of clerk at the higher court of the canton of Aargau in Aarau , and in 1965 he was appointed judge . In addition, he held the presidency from 1973 to 1975.
