The Hermann-Kesten-Kolleg (HKK) in Nuremberg is a municipal secondary school that provides the general higher education entrance qualification as a full-time and day school. The college was founded in 1961 under the name Nürnberg-Kolleg and renamed Hermann-Kesten-Kolleg on May 6, 2000 .

history

In 1961 the Bavarian Ministry of Culture approved the opening of the Nuremberg College after long debates. Founding rector Karl Kunze started the first lesson at 8 a.m. That happened an hour before the Munich College . This makes the HKK the first college in Bavaria.

At that time the school building was on Urbanstrasse in Zerzabelshof . After heated discussions due to financial problems and space constraints, the school had to keep moving, so the building was moved to Egidienplatz in 1986. In 1991, the founding school director gave up his post to Jürgen Handke. Under this, the college was housed in the rooms of the Sigena grammar school in Nuremberg in 1993. Gudrun Kuhn took over the head of the school in 2006. In 2000 the college was renamed after Hermann Kesten , an honorary citizen of the city of Nuremberg.

The current Hermann-Kesten-Kolleg moved to Fürther Straße in 2001. The school shares the building with the Nuremberg BFZ, among others. Hannelore Rühr has headed the college since 2011.

In the school year 2009/10 there was a changeover to the G8 in the upper level . In the 2018/19 school year, around 200 students were enrolled at the college.
