The Dürer-Gymnasium Nürnberg is a grammar school in Nuremberg .
history
The school was founded in 1833 as a trade school on the basis of a decree by King Ludwig I , who was committed to teaching realities in new agricultural and trade schools. In 1877 the trade school was converted into a "Royal District Realschule" and was now called the "New Oberrealschule". In 1933, in the year of its centenary, the school was renamed “Düreroberrealschule” in honor of Albrecht Dürer . In 1937 the previous school building, today's building yard of the city of Nuremberg, was moved to the current building at Sielstrasse 17. This was built in 1913 and was occupied by Realschule II up to this point. Realschule II was merged with Dürer's secondary school. In August 1965 the school was given its current name, and the Dürer Oberrealschule became the Dürer Gymnasium.
The school was initially an all-boys school until the first girls were accepted in the 1972/73 school year.
