Hermann Alberts

Wilhelm Heinrich Richard Hermann Alberts (born December 28, 1869 in Jeeben ; † March 5, 1960 in Stendal ) was a German Protestant clergyman .

Alberts, a son of pastor Andreas Heinrich Hermann Alberts, graduated from high school in 1888 at the Latina in the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) . He then studied at the Universities of Tübingen and Halle . In both places he was a member of the Association of German Students , in Halle he was even chairman. After the first exam he worked briefly as a senior helper in the Rauhen Haus in Hamburg and in 1893/94 as an educator at the Deaconess Mother House in Eisenach . After ordination in 1895, he became his father's adjunct in Jeeben, but in the same year accepted a position as vicar abroad in Cannes . In 1898 he moved to Frankfurt am Main as a cleric of the Inner Mission and in 1900 he moved to the parish in Langula . From 1902 to 1920 he officiated at the Church of St. Spiritus in Halberstadt as well as head of the deaconess house Cäcilienstift, from 1914 additionally as a garrison pastor. In 1920 he took over the office of chief cathedral preacher at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas , again connected with the office of local pastor; also was from 1922 to 1949 superintendent in the church district of Stendal. In 1946 he moved to the third pastor's position at the cathedral, and in 1950 he retired.

Alberts was involved in numerous Diakonie associations. From 1920 he was a member of the Provincial Board of the Inner Mission and the Board of Trustees of the Syrian Orphanage . But he was also interested in church and local history, was part-time curator of the Altmark Museum and published numerous specialist articles. The rescue of the Stendal cathedral windows in World War II is considered to be a particular merit. In 1931 the University of Halle awarded him an honorary doctorate .

Alberts was married to Clara Hecker (1878-1944) since 1897. His son Haymo (* 1910) was also a pastor in Stendal.
