from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Böhm (born May 14, 1916 in Nuremberg ; † February 22, 1983 there ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Career

Boehm began his motorsport career in 1934 as a passenger in the NSU - team of Hans Schumann . One of the successes of this year was the first place in the sidecar class up to 600 cm³ at the Eifel race on the Nürburgring . From 1936 he started as a driver of sidecar machines until 1938 races with sidecars were banned due to serious accidents and Böhm switched to solo machines.

After the Second World War , when sidecar races were allowed again, Böhm initially drove dirt track races. Together with his co-driver Karl Fuchs, he was twice German master on the road on NSU, in 1947 in both the class up to 600 cm³ and up to 1200 cm³ and in 1948 up to 600 cm³. When NSU only competed in the solo classes (125 cm³ and 250 cm³) from 1952, Böhm / Fuchs switched to Norton and came second in the German championship.

In October 1951, Böhm set a world record for sidecars with a flying start at 248 km / h over one kilometer on a section of the A 9 Munich - Ingolstadt often used for record drives on an NSU trailer with a supercharged engine (500 cm³) . During this and other of his record drives, the sidecar was not occupied by a co-driver, but weighed down with lead plates .

Hermann Böhm ended his racing career at the end of the 1952 season. He was awarded the “ Silver Laurel Leaf ” for his services to motorsport . He died on February 22, 1983 in his hometown of Nuremberg. Hermann-Böhm-Strasse in the Nuremberg- Dutzendteich district as well as Hermann-Böhm-Strasse in Hockenheim were named after him.
