Hermann Bachmann (1974)

Hermann Bachmann (born January 16, 1922 in Halle (Saale) ; † January 13, 1995 in Karlsruhe ) was a German painter .

Live and act

Hermann Bachmann was the son of the sculptor and painter Hermann Bachmann. At the School of Applied Arts in Offenbach am Main , he received from 1936 to 1941 trained as a typographer and commercial artist . During this time he also received private lessons in life drawing and painting from Otto Fischer-Lamberg in Halle. In 1939 his first pictures were exhibited in the Hans-Schemm-Oberschule Halle. From 1941 to 1945 he was a soldier in World War II .

In 1948 the gallery owner Eduard Henning Bachmann exhibited in Halle, after which he devoted a second solo exhibition to him in 1950.

In 1949 personal contacts began with the painters Max Pechstein and Karl Hofer . In 1952 he met the art dealer Rudolf Springer , who arranged exhibitions and sales for him in West Berlin. Bachmann was a member of the German Association of Artists and took part in its second exhibition in Cologne in 1952 with Helle Spiegel . In 1953 he moved to West Berlin. The examination of contemporary positions by painters such as Beckmann and Hofer or Picasso and Cezanne determined his beginnings and quickly led him into conflict with the official art doctrine of the GDR. The presentation of his painting “Mohn vor der Reife” in the Moritzburg earned him violent accusations of formalism in the politico-cultural times, which finally led him to leave Halle in 1953 and go to West Berlin.

In 1957 he became a lecturer at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin , where he was appointed professor in 1961 . His students include Otmar Alt , Hans-Ulrich Brunner , Barbara Heinisch and Maina-Miriam Munsky . In 1987 he retired .

Hermann Bachmann was a representative of the Halle School and belonged to a circle of friends who were artists, including the painters Charles Crodel , Otto Fischer-Lamberg, Otto Müller , Jochen Seidel , Karl Völker , the sculptor Waldemar Grzimek and the art historian Hans Junecke . He carried out joint artistic commissions with the painters Fritz Rübbert and Willi Sitte .

Hermann Bachmann was married to the sculptor Gisela Ruffert since 1946 and had a son and a daughter. From 1977 he lived and worked in Berlin and Karlsruhe.

In 2011 Gisela Bachmann donated 22 late works by Hermann Bachmann to the Moritzburg Foundation as a trust foundation .
