Matthias Rataiczyk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthias Rataiczyk (born February 2, 1960 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German painter and graphic artist who deals with the finiteness of earthly life in his work, dealing intensively with a wide variety of cultures. On worldwide travels he processes his experiences in his works.

Live and act

Matthias Rataiczyk was born in Halle in 1960 as the son of the painters and graphic artists Rosemarie and Werner Rataiczyk . After graduating from high school, he studied from 1982 to 1987 at Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle with Inge Götze. Since his diploma in 1987 and subsequent additional studies, he has been working as a freelancer in Halle.

Dealing with the demolition of entire parts of his hometown Halle in the mid-1980s led him to an artistic examination of architecture .

In 1991 he and ten other colleagues were among the founders of the art association "Talstrasse" eV, and since then he has been chairman of the association. He has curated a large number of exhibitions, is the editor of a number of catalog books for the Kunstverein and is active in a wide variety of committees and advisory boards. He was also a member of the cultural convention of Saxony-Anhalt in 2011/12.

With the political change in East Germany and the associated new opportunities, he moved to the Mediterranean countries at the beginning of the 1990s . From 1999 to 2004 he went on long study trips to Asia , where he dealt with the cultures he visited and created a wide variety of painting and drawing cycles. A visit to the Qin Shihuangdis mausoleum while on a trip to China in 2004 changed Rataiczyk's style. The figurative gained in importance. In the years from 2004 to 2009 it was encounters with mummy finds that moved him and stimulated him to become an artist. In particular, it was an extensive study trip to Peru in 2008 , where he met the Chachapoyamummies . In recent years, the inspiration for his work has increasingly come from architecture and landscape.
