Live and act

Werner Rataiczyk was born in Lutherstadt Eisleben in 1921. After an apprenticeship as a commercial artist, he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service in 1940 . From 1941 to 1945 he served as a soldier in North Africa and Italy. During his British captivity, he studied at the "camp university" Fayed with Georg Roppel and Gerhard Wendland . In 1947 he was able to return home and studied painting with Erwin Hahs at the Burg Giebichenstein art college in Halle (Saale) until 1952 . After his diploma he was accepted into the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBKD) in 1952 .

As early as the early 1950s, the reduction of the pictorial objects and the formal language led to an artistic abstraction of the motifs. The examination of the work of Pablo Picasso and the discovery of the modern French tapestry played an important role in the development of his painterly work . In 1952 he married Rosemarie Rost. Together with her, the painter and picture maker Rosemarie Rataiczyk , he set up a private tapestry workshop. In the years from 1955 to 1999, more than fifty tapestries, some of them large-format, were made, for which Werner Rataiczyk designed the boxes and which his wife Rosemarie Rataiczyk made by hand. Various helpers have been involved in the production of the large-format tapestries in the artist couple's studio over the years, e. B. Barbro Wiederhold and Erdmute Frank.

At the same time he created his extensive painterly oeuvre as well as numerous building-related works for churches and public representative rooms since the mid-1960s. Until 1992 he designed numerous colored glass windows for Catholic and Protestant churches as well as for secular buildings. The executions took place in different companies. Werner Rataiczyk worked with lithography from 1966 until the mid-1970s . The establishment of an own litho workshop followed. His collaboration in 1963/64 on the 5-part puppet cartoon series "Feffi Kunterbunts Adventure" for DEFA is something special . The idea and the book came from Gerd E. Schäfer , directed by Klaus Georgi . According to the drafts by Werner Rataiczyk, the puppets and background scenes were created in the DEFA animation film studio in Dresden . The films were first broadcast on GDR television in June / July 1964 .

Since his return from captivity, he lived and worked with his wife and two children in Halle (Saale). In 1960 his son Matthias Rataiczyk was born , and a year later his daughter Marcella Rataiczyk was born. In 1991 he was one of the founding members of the art association "Talstrasse" eV , today's sponsoring association of the art gallery "Talstrasse" in Halle (Saale).

A part of Werner Rataiczyk's artistic legacy is documented online in the work database Visual Arts Saxony-Anhalt of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Saxony-Anhalt.
