Hermann Busch

Hermann Busch (born June 24, 1897 in Siegen , † June 3, 1975 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) was a German cellist .

Life

His father was the instrument maker Wilhelm Busch .

From the age of nine he received cello lessons from his father. This was followed by studies at the University of Music in Cologne with Friedrich Gruetzmacher and at the Vienna Music Academy with Paul Grümmer . During the First World War he was a soldier member of the symphony orchestra in Brussels . From 1919 to 1923 he was solo cellist in Bochum and from 1923 to 1927 soloist with the symphony orchestra in Vienna. From 1927 he was employed as a teacher at the Folkwang School in Essen . At the same time he continued to pursue solo activities. He often did this together with his brothers Fritz and Adolf . He was also a member of the Busch Serkin Trio and from 1930 a cellist in the Busch Quartet as successor to Paul Grümmer. 1933 emigrated Hermann Busch in Switzerland after Basel . In 1940 he went to the USA , where he became a member of the Adolf Busch Chamber Orchestra and co-founded the Marlboro School of Music. In 1954 he was appointed professor at the University of Miami . He spent his retirement in Peoria and Haverford .

Hermann Busch was the brother of the conductor Fritz Busch , the actor Willi Busch , the composer and violinist Adolf Busch and the musician Heinrich Busch .
