Hermann Eising

Hermann Eising (born February 4, 1908 in Coesfeld ; † August 9, 1981 in Münster ) was a German Catholic theologian and university professor ( Old Testament scholar ) in Münster.

Life

Hermann Eising was the son of a craftsman. He attended the grammar school in his hometown (today's Nepomucenum grammar school ), where he graduated from high school in 1927. From 1927 to 1931 he studied at the University of Münster and at the University of Freiburg . Eising was ordained a priest on December 17, 1932. In 1933, the Bishop of Münster , Clemens August Graf von Galen , appointed him his chaplain. During these years, until its dissolution by the Gestapo in 1939, he headed the theologian community in the Bund New Germany . Then Eising went to the parish of St. Matthias in Berlin. In 1947 he returned to Münster and became a chaplain in Angelmodde .

With his dissertation form of historical studies on the Jacob story of Genesis in 1940 Eising was Theological Catholic from the Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University Dr. theol. PhD. In 1949 his habilitation took place. In 1953 he took over the representation of the chair for Old Testament exegesis of the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Münster. In 1955 he was appointed full professor . Among his students is the Erfurt Old Testament scholar Hans Lubsczyk . In 1975 he retired.

Eising was from 1959 to 1970 editor of the magazine Theologische Revue . As a subsidiary he was a pastor in the parish of St. Michael in Münster.
