Hans Lubsczyk

Hans Lubsczyk (born May 30, 1911 in Leipzig ; † February 29, 2008 in Zwochau near Leipzig) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and Old Testament scholar .

Life

Hans Lubsczyk grew up as the son of a post office clerk from Upper Silesia in Leipzig, where he attended the Schiller Realgymnasium . After graduating from high school in 1930, he studied philosophy and sociology for a semester at the University of Leipzig. Then he began studying theology at the Fulda seminary . At the request of Meißen Bishop Petrus Legge , he continued his studies in Paderborn in 1933/34 , and in 1934 he entered the Schmochtitz pastoral seminar (near Bautzen). During a pastoral internship in Leipzig- Gohlis , he was at Easter 1937 because of the reproduction of the encyclical Pius XI. Imprisoned " With Burning Concern ".

On May 26th (Ascension Day) 1938 he was ordained a priest in his home parish in Leipzig-Gohlis and was initially chaplain at the Hofkirche in Dresden . In 1941 he was committed to military service as a medic. After the end of the war in 1945 he joined the Leipzig Oratory of Philipp Neri and was active in pastoral care. From 1956 to 1961 he studied the subject of the Old Testament at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . With Hermann Eising he received his doctorate summa cum laude in 1961 with the thesis "The Exodus of Israel from Egypt" .

In 1961 he became a deputy chair for the Old Testament at the Philosophical-Theological Studies in Erfurt, the then purely ecclesiastical predecessor of the theological faculty of today's Erfurt University . In 1971 he received ibid a reputation as a professor of Old Testament Exegesis. From 1973 to 1974 he was rector of the Philosophical-Theological Studies. After his retirement in 1976 he devoted himself to the Focolare Movement , in whose settlements in Ottmaring (near Augsburg) and Montet ( Canton Friborg ) he lived and taught.

Act

Even before his studies in Münster, he became known for his first work “The Covenant with God”, which was published several times and translated into several languages. In addition to numerous publications, Lubsczyk was co-editor of the “Spiritual Reading”.

In 1965 Lubsczyk was a participant in the fourth session of the Second Vatican Council . in 1968 and 1969 he was a participant in the diocesan synod of the diocese of Meissen. Since 1971 he has been involved in the Focolare Movement .
