Hermann Eugen Benrath (born January 10, 1812 in Stolberg , † December 31, 1893 in Düren ), nicknamed Uhm von Ohm ( uncle ), was a German educator and author .

Benrath's parents were the teacher Daniel Isaac Benrath († September 26, 1834) and Johanna Benrath nee Schombart († December 2, 1849). On October 7, 1835, he married his colleague Johanna Wetzel (born November 14, 1809 in Prenzlau ; † November 10, 1887 in Düren) in Düren. The couple had six children.

He attended elementary school in his native Stolberg. He continued his education with Johann Wilhelm Meigen . From 1829 to 1832 he attended the Protestant school teacher seminar in Neuwied .

From October 1st, 1832, Benrath worked at the Protestant “private family school” in Düren, today the seat of the Düren regulatory office at Schenkelstrasse 6-8 . The school was later divided into a two-class elementary school, a secondary school for girls with two classes and a three-class community school . Hermann Eugen Benrath became rector of the schools on December 6, 1857 . He retired on April 1, 1884.

A collection of donations from the students and alumni raised 24,000 marks. With this, the Düsseldorf painter Caspar Scheuren created a commemorative plaque to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the service on October 1, 1882.
