Hermann Fabini

Hermann Fabini (born October 8, 1938 in Kronstadt ) is a Romanian architect and politician ( Partidul Național Liberal ) of Transylvanian-Saxon origin.

education and profession

Fabini spent his childhood in Buşteni and attended schools in various places in Transylvania . After graduating from university in 1955, he studied architecture in Bucharest until 1962 . From 1962 to 1968 Fabini worked as an architect in Mediasch , then he worked for the Evangelical Church AB until 1971 . He then worked for the Romanian monument protection authority in Bucharest and for a municipal company in Sibiu . Between 1989 and 1990 he was cultural advisor at the Evangelical Church AB. Since 1990 Fabini has been running his own architecture office in Sibiu.

Fabini has played a key role in the restoration and renovation of historic buildings in Transylvania since 1965. He was involved in the restoration of Sibiu's old town at the end of the 1980s and in the maintenance of numerous fortified churches . The renovation of the fortified church of Biertan , which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, should be emphasized . Fabini was awarded the Europa Nostra Prize for the restoration . The buildings repaired by him also include u. a. the Brukenthal Palace and the parish church in Sibiu, the Margaret Church in Medias and the Black Church in Brasov.

In 1978 Fabini received his doctorate on Gothic housing in Transylvania. The dissertation was published in Bucharest in 1983 and in 1989 in western German-speaking countries.

Fabini is a member of the scientific council of the European monument preservation organization Europa Nostra .

Writing activity

Fabini also dealt with the architecture of Transylvania as an author. Fabini has been running the Monumenta publishing house since 1996, which primarily publishes the series Architectural Monuments in Transylvania . It currently comprises 55 booklets, almost all of which were penned by Fabini.

Fabini's main work is the atlas of the Transylvanian-Saxon fortified churches and village churches, which describes all of the Transylvanian fortified churches and village churches in two volumes with a total of around 1,300 pages. The atlas is regarded as a standard work and for the first time offers an overview of all the altars of the church buildings described after the Reformation.

Political career

Between 2000 and 2004 Fabini was a member of the Romanian Senate for the liberal Partidul Național Liberal . There he was particularly active against the Dracula amusement park planned in Schäßburg . He also dealt with issues relating to Romania's integration into the European Union .

Private

Hermann Fabini is married to the pastor's daughter Alida Schaser, with whom he has three children. His brother is the Schäßburg artist Wilhelm Fabini .
