Hermann Girstmair (born April 4, 1929 in Lienz , East Tyrol , † March 11, 2019 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian local politician ( ÖVP ) and high school teacher .

Life

Girstmair worked as a grammar school professor from 1958 to 1973 before entering the service of the state of Tyrol . There he was appointed head of the regional youth department, the predecessor department of what would later become the JUFF, in 1974. As a state youth officer, Girstmair was one of the closest employees of State Councilor Fritz Prior and promoted open youth work.

Hermann Girstmair was a member of the municipal council of the state capital Innsbruck from 1977 to 1994 and from 1989 to 1994 he was the city councilor responsible for the departments of culture, schools and town twinning.

For his special merits, Girstmair was awarded the Great Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria in 1987, the Decoration of Honor of the State of Tyrol in 2002 and the Cross of Merit of the City of Innsbruck in 2004.

Hermann Girstmair supported the AufBauWerk der Jugend as a board member and promoted the music industry in Tyrol as an active member of the Tyrolean Folk Music Association for many years. He was also a member of the supervisory board of Neue Heimat Tirol from 1993 to 1996. Since 1980 he has also been a member of the Sparkasse Innsbruck-Hall Association, the Tiroler Sparkasse Private Foundation and holder of the Sparkasse badge of honor in gold.

Girstmair was seen as a committed employee representative with Christian-social values. He was deeply rooted in the parish of Saggen , where he worked as a lecturer for many years . Family and youth policy was particularly important to him.

Hermann Girstmair was buried on March 20, 2019 in the presence of the abbot of Wilten Abbey Raimund Schreier OPraem, the former Tyrolean governor Alois Partl and numerous members from all factions of the Innsbruck municipal council as well as with great sympathy from the population in the Innsbruck district of Mühlau .

Varia

In his novel Kripp (2012), Otto Licha allows the so-called progressive world spirit to meet the hermetically sealed local sentiment in a fictitious council meeting of a provincial town. A fictional Girstmair advocates the thesis that tolerance is all the more necessary the smaller the world spirit is. (Page 89)
