The Tiroler Sparkasse Bank Aktiengesellschaft Innsbruck was founded in 1822 and has a market share of around 30% for private customers and nearly 50% of corporate customers a leading position in their regional market (as of 2006). The focus is on private customers, freelancers and medium-sized businesses. The Tiroler Sparkasse is part of the Austrian savings bank group . In addition, it is a member of the Sparkassen-Haftungsverbund , which guarantees the payment of customer deposits beyond the legally guaranteed amount of 100,000 euros.

In economically difficult years, Count Chotek and Dr. Riccabona 1822 the " Sparkasse zu Innsbruck" as the first bank in Tyrol and the second oldest association savings bank in Austria . The aim was to promote the formation of savings and financial provision among broad sections of the population and to use the formation of savings for economic development in the region. The city of Innsbruck provides the first shop next to the city tower in what was then the town hall.
The savings bank became a general savings institute in 1822 and can therefore be used by all social classes. Until then, this only applied to the socially and economically disadvantaged. In 1866 the institute moved to the municipal building at Pfarrplatz 2, today's Cathedral Square . In 1877 the Sparkasse moved into its future property on Erlerstrasse. In 1885 it was named “Sparkasse der Stadt Innsbruck” in accordance with its statutes. The first World Savings Day was held in 1925. In the same year the first exchange office was opened in Maria-Theresien-Straße.
The main office of the Tiroler Bauernsparkasse in Innsbruck was added to the Sparkasse of the city of Innsbruck in 1943. In 1955 the Sparefroh was “born”. A year later the first branch was opened in Pradl . A new seven-story building was built in 1974 at Sparkassenplatz and was given the official address “Sparkassenplatz 1”. In 1975 there was a merger with the “Sparkasse der Stadt Solbad Hall ”. The Sparkasse now bore the name "Sparkasse der Stadt Innsbruck mit Sparkasse der Stadt Hall". The first ATM in Tyrol went into operation in 1980 in the Sparkassenpassage.
In 1982 the institute changed its name to “Sparkasse Innsbruck-Hall, Tiroler Sparkasse”. One year later, the right to use and use the Tyrolean coat of arms was granted . Tirolinvest KAG was founded in 1988 as Tyrol's only fund company. In 1990 the entire banking business of the Sparkasse was brought into the "Tiroler Sparkasse Bankaktiengesellschaft Innsbruck". In 2001 Erste Bank became the majority owner of the Tiroler Sparkasse. The Tiroler Sparkasse became part of the Erste Group (with around 15.7 million customers). In 2007, the Innsbruck branch of the Second Sparkasse was opened. In 2017 Tirolinvest KAG was merged with Erste-Sparinvest Kapitalanlagegesellschaft mbH.
