The Erste-Sparinvest (proper spelling ERSTE- INVEST) is an Austrian investment company . It manages assets totaling over 32 billion euros (as of May 2017) and is one of 21 investment companies represented in the Association of Austrian Investment Fund Companies (VÖIG). Erste-Sparinvest is owned by Erste Group Bank AG , various savings banks in Austria and Vienna Insurance Group AG.

history

In Austria, interest in investing in securities increased in the early 1960s. Those responsible at Girozentrale, the predecessor institution of Erste Group Bank AG , wanted to be active in this market segment. This led to the founding of Sparinvest KAG on March 29, 1965 under the managing director Josef Taus . The legal foundation for the establishment of fund companies and the launch of investment funds was laid with the Investment Fund Act (InvFG) 1963.

Sparinvest's shareholders when the company was founded were Girozentrale , Steiermärkische and Deutsche Girozentrale . In addition to the "Giro", the cooperative central bank (GZB) and the Volksbanken also owned shares in Sparinvest. There were distribution agreements with BAWAG PSK , Erste and Zentralsparkasse . Sparinvest thus fulfilled the role of a cross-sector fund company from the 1970s to the early 1980s.

After the cooperative central bank (1986) and the Volksbanken (1989) left the group of shareholders, some savings banks in the provincial capitals ( Steiermärkische Bank , Salzburger Sparkasse , Allgemeine Sparkasse Linz , Kärntner Sparkasse , Tiroler Sparkasse ) took over the shares that had become free. When the majority of the Girozentrale came under the influence of Bank Austria in 1994 , Sparinvest was merged with the Bank Austria capital investment company to form Sparinvest Austria, today Pioneer Investments Austria. Two years later, took over Erste Bank the GiroCredit (previously Girozentrale ). Part of Sparinvest Austria was merged with the capital investment company der Erste (EKA): Since November 7, 1998, the company has been operating as ERSTE-SPARINVEST KAG. In 2008 the company became part of Erste Asset Management GmbH , which coordinates and controls the asset management activities within Erste Group Bank AG .

With retroactive effect from December 31, 2017, ERSTE-SPARINVEST was merged with Erste Asset Management GmbH. The merger was approved by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). The merger took effect when it was entered in the commercial register. All of the investment funds managed by ERSTE-SPARINVEST, i.e. the total fund assets of 32.1 billion euros (as of September 29, 2018), have been managed by Erste Asset Management since the merger took effect.

Prominent personalities

  • Josef Taus , industrialist, manager, former general director of the Girozentrale and former federal party chairman of the ÖVP , founder and managing director of Sparinvest KAG
  • Klaus Liebscher , former General Director of RZB and Governor of the OeNB , fund manager at Sparinvest KAG

Investment funds

Most of the funds are managed in-house or in cooperation with international investment houses . Particular focus is on bond funds , emerging markets funds (with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe ) and ethically sustainable investment funds . "Strategy funds" play an important role; These are mixed investment products that weight the various asset classes according to different aspects. There are versions of the strategy funds with an absolute return target (" absolute return ") and those that are based on a comparative index ( benchmark ).
