Hermann Gradinger (* 1936 ) is a German locksmith and blacksmith .

Life

Hermann Gradinger completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith and passed the journeyman's examination in 1955. From 1961 to 1962 he attended the master school for art and building metalworking, his teacher was Edwin Roth . Then he passed the master's examination. From 1965 he showed his works at exhibitions; The exhibition venues included Lindau , Bremen , Aachen , Munich , Paris , London and New York . In 2007, for example, in the Landesmuseum Koblenz, the exhibition ... because of old iron! - The metal workshop Hermann Gradinger shown. The exhibition was conceived in 2006 on the occasion of Gradinger's 70th birthday by the Rheinhessen Chamber of Crafts.

Gradinger has been participating in international workshops as a guest lecturer and demonstrator since 1979. In 1968 he received the advancement award for arts and crafts in Rhineland-Palatinate and in 1972 the state award for arts and crafts in Rhineland-Palatinate. He received second prize in the international competition “Metall-Leuchten 88”. In 1999 he received the Federal Prize for Crafts in Monument Preservation in Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2005 he was awarded the Design Prize for Crafts in Rheinhessen.

Gradinger ran his workshop in Mainz-Gonsenheim in the third generation. The company is now called "Werkstatt für Metallgestaltung" and is run by Hermann Gradinger's son Michael.

Hermann Gradinger was federal chairman of the specialist group metal design in the federal metal association for several years . During the discussion about certification according to DIN EN 1090 , he wrote to its president : “Metal designers love their craft. The design, the production and the good result are inextricably linked. Our work ethic does not need a norm, we are interested in the quality of our work. Our time-consuming work process from design to finished work does not tolerate any further effort or additional costs. A fulfilled standard says nothing about the quality of a job. "

The work of art forged friendship, designed by Hermann Gradinger, has stood in front of the district administration in Bad Dürkheim since 1986 . The work was carried out by Gradinger, Michel and Jean-Yves Bouillot, Pierre Etroy and Bernd Funk. It symbolizes the 30-year partnership between Germany and France. The Easter candlesticks and baptismal fonts of the Evangelical Church in Bischofsheim were made by Hermann Gradinger. Gradinger reworked the historic entrance lock of the Uelversheim church and created the stainless steel cross for the Heiliggeistkirche in Seeheim .
