Hermann Grieben (born February 8, 1822 in Köslin ; † September 24, 1890 ) was a German journalist and poet . After working as a journalist in his native Pomerania, he worked from 1859 until his death in the Rhine Province as editor of the Kölnische Zeitung .

Life

Greaves was born in Köslin as the son of the sub-principal at the local high school; for a long time he had lessons from his father. In 1841 greaves went to the University of Breslau . There he initially studied theology , but soon turned to the fields of philology , history and literature. In 1843 he published his first volume of poetry with Lieder eines Studenten . In 1845 he was with a dissertation on Dante to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1846 to 1848 he worked in Laskowitz in West Prussia as a private tutor .

But he decided to become a journalist . After a traineeship in his home town at the Kösliner Zeitung , he became editor of the Ostsee-Zeitung in Stettin in 1850 , then in 1852 editor of the Lübeckische Zeitung . As early as 1853 he went back to Stettin, where he was the editor-in-chief of the Pommerschen Zeitung , a daily newspaper founded in 1849 under the title "Pommersche Bürgerzeitung" and published until 1866. Here he worked until 1859; his successor as editor was Wilhelm Dunker .

In 1859 Grieben went to Cologne to become editor of the Kölnische Zeitung . He worked in this capacity for three decades until his death in 1890.
