He studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University and was reciprocated on June 15, 1907 in his father's Corps Suevia Munich . In 1912 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. First he was assistant to Ferdinand Flury at the Pharmacological Institute of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In 1913 he went to Max Borst in Munich to train in pathology . With him he experienced the First World War in a hospital . The experiences were reflected in several publications. In Munich he became a prosector and conservator . In 1921 he completed his habilitation with Borst. In 1924 he received an associate's post . Although he was not a supporter of National Socialism , he followed the retired Martin Benno Schmidt in 1934 to the chair of the University of Würzburg. He owed the appointment to his teacher Borst, who had himself been in Würzburg. Since he had not led the ordinariate in a “new spirit”, Grudge was not abandoned by the US military government in Bavaria after the end of the war. He remained director of the institute for two years until his death. However, it was destroyed by the bombing raid on Würzburg on March 16, 1945 . He was married to Alice born in 1922. Grim. The son Horst Groll emerged from the marriage.
