Hermann Knorr (born September 16, 1897 in Neckargemünd ; † January 2, 1976 in Heidelberg ) was a south-west German state politician of the SPD , as well as co-founder, co-publisher and editor-in-chief of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung .

Life

In 1922, Knorr submitted his dissertation on the German party organizations with a view to the development of the English party system at the Philosophical Faculty of Heidelberg University .

From 1932 to 1933 he was a member of the state parliament of the Republic of Baden for the SPD (4th electoral period). After the end of the Second World War and the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, Knorr stood in the state elections in November 1946 as the top candidate of the state SPD for the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden in what was then the district of Heidelberg . As a replacement for Hermann Veit , who had resigned his mandate on January 12, 1951, he was again a member of parliament.

Together with Rudolf Agricola ( KPD ) and Theodor Heuss ( DVP / FDP ), Hermann Knorr received a license to publish a daily newspaper from the US military administration on September 5, 1945. Together they founded the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) published in Heidelberg , the first newspaper in Württemberg-Baden after the end of the war. Criticism of the restoration and integration into the West in the three zones occupied by the Western powers and openly expressed doubts about the sustainability of democratic development (see quote) led two years later to the military government of the US occupation zone on August 31, 1948, again granting Agricola the license withdrew and he transferred to the Soviet zone of occupation and accepted a lectureship at the University of Halle. On April 19, 1952, after lengthy disputes, Knorr also took over the business share from Theodor Heuss, who, due to his election as Federal President in 1949 according to Article 55 of the Basic Law, was no longer allowed to run a commercial company and Knorr was the only publisher left.

Hermann Knorr's successor as publishing director, editor-in-chief and co-editor of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung was his son Winfried Knorr , his son Ludwig Knorr was also the managing director and is still a partner to this day. Hermann Knorr's grandson Joachim Knorr now runs the company together with Inge Höltzcke (daughter of Ludwig Knorr) in the third generation.

Quote

"If the Germans shudder as soon as the word" democracy "rings in their ears, then the parties are to blame."
