Sebastian Graf von Lodron (born August 28, 1601 in Concesio near Brescia, † September 4, 1643 in Concesio) was Bishop of Gurk .

Life

Sebastian von Lodron was born the son of Hieronymus Graf von Lodron and his wife Julia de Zanetti in Concesio near Brescia. Through his relative, the Salzburg Archbishop Paris von Lodron , he received minor orders on June 5, 1621 in the parish church of St. Maria in Villa Lagarina. On 24 June 1624, he was sub-deacon , on June 28, deacon , and on 29 June for priests ordained . In the following year 1625, at the age of 24, he received from Pope Urban VIII the old age dispensation to obtain the parish of Santa Maria Lagarana.

On February 4, 1626 he became canon in Salzburg after he had already received a canonical at the Cathedral of Trento . The Pope had also granted him the privilege of keeping these two canons and the parish of Santa Maria, a family patronage of the Counts of Lodron, should he one day achieve episcopal dignity.

In 1625 he became the Emperor's Privy Councilor and, two years later, Privy Councilor and Chamberlain to Archduke Leopold Wilhelm , Bishop of Passau, a son of Emperor Ferdinand II .

In 1630 he was appointed Bishop of Gurk by Emperor Ferdinand II. Since he was prevented by his services to the Bishop of Passau, Bishop Lodron took possession of his cathedral in Gurk through a deputy. It was not until 1631 that Lodron personally moved into his residence in Strasbourg . He appointed the Gurk cathedral provost Max von Altringen to be the administrator of his diocese.

In Rome, the emperor sought an extension for the permit, according to which Bishop Lodron, as chief chamberlain of the Passau bishop, would remain exempt from his residence obligation. Bishop Lodron stayed in his diocese very seldom during this time, but rather in Vienna.

On September 4, 1643, the bishop died while visiting his family in Concesio and was buried in the family crypt there. His younger brother Franz followed him as Bishop of Gurk.
