Hermann Scheffler (politician, 1893)
Hermann Karl Wilhelm Scheffler (born February 12, 1893 in Koenigsberg in der Neumark (pl. Chojna), † September 19, 1933 in Berlin ) was a German communal politician ( KPD ). He was u. a. District councilor and city councilor in Berlin.
Life and activity
Like his father, Hermann Scheffler learned to be a carpenter and later worked as a moulder at Deutsche Werke AG in Berlin-Spandau , where he was also a member of the works council. Since 1914 he was married to Emma Heilmann.
From 1919 he was politically active in the USPD before he joined the KPD in 1920, for which he worked as a functionary, and from 1925 elected officials. In 1925 he was elected to the district assembly of the Wedding district, which was followed from 1929 to 1931 as a city councilor in the Berlin city council .
Within the KPD he was active in the Red Front Fighters League and worked in the party's internal intelligence service, military policy department (AM apparatus). As head of the KPD's factory cell in the Wernerwerke in Berlin-Siemensstadt , he was a member of the party's Berlin-Brandenburg-Lausitz district leadership . At this level he was also a member of the district leadership of the Red Front Fighters League.
From 1930 to 1932 Scheffler stayed in the Soviet Union . He then worked for the Berlin transport company , where he was dismissed in 1933.
On September 18, 1933, Hermann Scheffler was arrested by SA units and taken to the police station's cockchafer barracks on Chausseestrasse. There he is said to have been so badly mistreated that one day later he was admitted to the prison ward of the state hospital of the Berlin police , where he died of internal bleeding on September 19 and 20 .
Commemoration
- In 1947 Hermann-Scheffler-Strasse in Hohen Neuendorf was named after him
- In the memorial of the socialists , he is remembered as a participant in the anti-fascist resistance on a plaque on the circular wall of the memorial
- Since 2008, a stumbling block has been remembering him at Demminer Str. 13 in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen , where he last lived .
Archival tradition
The Federal Archives have preserved a file from the Reich Attorney because of Scheffler's political activity (R 3003/877) and a file from the State Police Hospital about his admission there and his death (R 19/2921).
