Hermann Stürcke

Hermann Friedrich Stürcke (born June 16, 1832 in Bremen , † March 6, 1911 in Erfurt ) was a German banker and co-owner of the private bank Adolph Stürcke in Erfurt. He held the honorary title of secret commercial councilor .

Hermann Stürcke was the son of Nicolaus Stürcke (1788–1868) and his wife Anna Adelheid Stürcke (1792–1867). He was the brother of Adolph Stürcke (1817-1860), who in 1849 had taken over a small banking house in Erfurt founded in 1827, which became known as Bankhaus Stürcke or Bankhaus Adolph Stürcke . In 1859, Hermann Stürcke became a partner in his brother's private banking house, which he ran with Adolph Stürcke junior. The family-run bank was one of the most important financiers alongside Wilhelm Moos’s bank and became the house bank of the Erfurt upper middle class . The Stürckes were among the most respected families in town.

As the wealthiest citizen of Erfurt, Hermann Stürcke was a member of the city ​​council from 1865 to 1892 , and from 1867 head of the city council. In 1872 he was given the honorary title of Kommerzienrat . In 1876 he was awarded the Prussian Royal Crown Order IV class .

As early as 1869 he was elected to the board of directors of Thuringia Versicherungs-AG at the general assembly. According to the newspaper Der Aktionär, in 1873 he left the Board of Directors of Weimarische Bank . In 1886 Hermann Stürcke was one of the founding members of the Erfurt Art Association , for which he also acted as treasurer . As chairman of the board of directors of Thuringia Versicherungs-AG, he took part in the constituent meeting of the supervisory board of Munich Reinsurance Company on April 23, 1880 , at which he also sat on the supervisory board at the beginning. At that time he was also a member of the administrative board of the Thuringian gas company .

Until the foreclosure auction in 1871, he headed the Ilmenau porcelain factory , which was then converted into a stock corporation (AG). Hermann Stürcke was also President of the Erfurt Chamber of Commerce from 1872 to 1882 , of which he was previously Deputy President. Stürcke also sat on the board of directors of the Thuringian Railway Company . His long-term membership in the Erfurt branch of the Saxon-Thuringian Geography Association is well known .

In his first marriage, Hermann Stürcke was married to Antonie Stürcke, née Schmidt, with whom he had a son and a daughter. From his second marriage to Agnes Amalie Stürcke geb. Klapp (1852-1892) was the birth of the banker Max Stürcke and two other children.

Like his brother Adolph and his son Max, Hermann Stürcke was a Freemason .

Several documents indicate that he was also awarded the title of Privy Councilor of Commerce . In addition, the city of Erfurt granted him honorary citizenship , after he had last donated 100,000 marks , the interest of which, according to his wishes, should be used for art purposes.
