Hermann Walser

Hermann Walser (born December 11, 1870 in Biel , † May 1, 1919 in Bern ; resident in Teufen ) was a Swiss geographer and university lecturer from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Hermann Walser was a son of Adolf Walser, bookbinder and businessman , and Elisa Marti. He was the brother of Karl Walser and Robert Walser . He studied geography , geology and history at the University of Bern , at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and at the University in Leipzig . In 1892 he obtained the diploma for the higher teaching post. In 1896 he did his doctorate under Eduard Brückner . From 1893 to 1894 he worked as a secondary teacher in Herzogenbuchsee . From 1894 to 1909 he was a high school teacher in Bern. In 1909 he became a private lecturer and associate professor . From 1911 he held a chair as a full professor for anthropogeography at the University of Bern. Walser dealt with the cultural landscape change , settlement research and the relationship between politics and geography. He also worked on the Geographical Lexicon of Switzerland .
