Hermann Wolf (natural healer)
Hermann Wolf (born May 13, 1861 in Großwaltersdorf ; † January 29, 1939 in Freital ) was a German teacher. He is considered one of the pioneers of the proletarian naturopathic movement.
Life
Hermann Wolf was born in the industrial village of Großwaltersdorf into a large working-class family and grew up in poor living conditions. He fell ill with tuberculosis, which only got better when his family moved to the country and ran a small farm there.
He attended elementary school in Eppendorf . In 1872 he switched to school in Oederan and from 1875 to 1880 he attended the teachers' college in Annaberg . He received his first job as a teacher in February 1880 in Niederlauterstein in the central Ore Mountains . There he began to deal with naturopathy for the first time, which from then on became his life. As a teacher, he decided to visit all of his sick students and experienced hardship and misery there. In 1883 he passed the electoral exam. In the same year he took on a better paid teaching position in Döhlen near Freital and worked there until his death.
On October 28, 1887, he founded the association for health care and non-medicinal treatment in Deuben and the surrounding area , which later became the natural healing association for the Plauen area . In 1906 he became a co-founder of the Workers' Association in Dresden . When he publicly condemned the war after the First World War, he was imprisoned for two months in the Dresden prison on Münchener Platz. He joined the USPD .
In 1928, for reasons of age, he retired from the editorial office of the magazine Volksgesundheit , which he had been head of until then. He retired to his son Johannes Wolf in Döhlen. Here he saw how the Association of Public Health and its press organ was banned by the National Socialists. He distanced himself from the new rulers and died in 1939 in the Freital district of Döhlen.
Honors
In Freital, a street and the Windbergbad were named after him and a memorial stone was erected for him in the air bath. The name of the bath was reversed after 1990.
