Hermann von Wickede I

Hermann von Wickede (* 1294 in Wickede near Dortmund ; † January 29, 1367 in Lübeck ) was a German politician and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. He was the first of his branch, which came from an old estate from Dortmund, who moved to Lübeck at the beginning of the 14th century, settled there and founded a family that provided successful merchants and councilors of the city of Lübeck for several generations and some of their ranks produced successful mayors .

Hermann von Wickede was councilor from around 1324 and mayor from 1365 to 1367. In 1340 he played a key role in the settlement of the road toll between Hamburg and Stade and in 1343 he was ambassador for the city of Lübeck and arbitrator in negotiations with King Magnus II of Sweden because of his constant demands for money from the Hanseatic cities.

On September 7, 1343 he was appointed a member of the cathedral chapter . He also appeared as a delegate at the Hanseatic Days in Wismar in 1356 and in Rostock in 1358 . In 1359 he again became necessary as an arbitrator and in 1360 he negotiated the peace treaty for Lübeck with Duke Erich II of Saxony-Lauenburg . In 1359 he was arbitrator in a dispute between Lübeck and the Knights Scarpenbergh . In addition, from 1350 he was head of the Holy Spirit Hospital in Lübeck.

In Lübeck itself, Wickede bought the Löwenhof, later called the Alt-Lauerhof near Lauerholz , which he transferred to his son Gottschalk (1322-1369) in 1354. He acquired further land near Falkensee and built a guest house in 1367.

Hermann von Wickede was married twice, his first marriage to a daughter of the mayor Segebodo Crispin . He had at least four children. His son Gottschalk became German commander and knight in Reval .
