Hermione Freed
Hermine Freed (* 1940 in New York City ; † 1998 in New York City ) was an American painter and video artist .
Life
Freed studied painting at Cornell University and New York University , where she taught from the late 1960s. In 1972 Freed moved to the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he became professor of video art. She married the architect James Ingo Freed (1930-2005).
She initially videotaped artist portraits, starting with James Rosenquist . Although the portrait was not broadcast on WNYC , she did not let herself be discouraged and produced an entire series. On the one hand, she made documentary videos and, on the other hand, she made artistic videos that dealt with female perception and self-image. In 1972 she was invited by curator David Ross to the Circuit: A Video Invitational exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art . Two Faces (1973) and Art Herstory (1974) are two highly acclaimed works.
Freed worked with various cinematic techniques, e.g. B. Blue screen technology and transitions . She also experimented with mirrors , optical instruments , various types of lenses and magnifying glasses .
