Hersony Gadiel Canelón Vera (born December 2, 1988 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan track cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2010, Hersony Canelón finished second at the Pan American Championships in the team sprint , together with Ángel Pulgar and César Marcano . In 2011 he won the Pan American Games in Guadalajara in the sprint (as the first Venezuelan) and in the team sprint (with Pulgar and Marcano) and finished second in the Keirin . At the second round of the Track Cycling World Cup 2011/12 in Cali , he was third in Keirin and team sprint (with Pulgar and Marcano).

In 2013 Canelón won the gold medal in the team sprint at the Pan American Championships in Aguascalientes , together with Marcano and Pulgar. They were able to repeat this success in 2014 and 2015 as well as at the Pan American Games in 2015 . In 2016, Hersony Canelón was nominated for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and finished eighth in the team sprint with Marcano and Pulgar. In 2018 he won the Keirin competition at the South American Games and won medals in other Latin American competitions. At the Pan American Games in 2019 , he finished second in the Keirin.
