Hertha Beese
Hertha Beese (born September 10, 1902 in Berlin ; † October 15, 1987 there ), née Scholz, was a German politician ( SPD ).
Career
Hertha Scholz was the daughter of the later district mayor of Neukölln Alfred Scholz (1876-1944) and the Berlin city councilor Gertrud Scholz (1881-1950), her younger brother was the journalist and publisher Arno Scholz (1904-1971).
Hertha Scholz attended a Higher School for Girls , which she in 1918 for financial reasons with the intermediate certificate completed. Then she took the gifted test and went to evening school . From 1920 she studied at the German University for Physical Education and the Berlin University . Later she works as a teacher in Berlin-Lichtenberg and Reinickendorf . After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, she was unemployed several times.
Hertha Scholz joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) as early as 1916 and the SPD in 1919. She became a co-founder of the Young Socialists . In the Weimar Republic she worked under Hedwig Wachenheim and Clara Schuch on the first youth welfare law . During the time of National Socialism , Hertha Beese also met the last Berlin SPD chairman, Franz Künstler . In 1943 her family was bombed out and had to move to Cottbus .
After the Second World War , Hertha Beese was immediately active in the SPD in Cottbus. In 1946 the family moved to West Berlin because of the political situation . From 1949 to 1965, Beese was district councilor for youth in the Reinickendorf district. In 1964 she became chairwoman of the Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) in the Wilmersdorf district .
Hertha Beese was awarded the Marie Juchacz plaque as the city's eldest in Berlin in 1972, and in 1982 the Berlin Senate awarded her the Ernst Reuter plaque . She is buried in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf . Her grave is dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honorary grave .
