Herwig Barthes

Herwig Barthes (born September 4, 1971 ) is a German jazz musician . He plays the trumpet and flugelhorn .

After Barthes won a prize at the Jugend jazzt competition in 1993 , he studied jazz trumpet at the Cologne University of Music until 1997 , then cultural management at the Cologne Administration and Business Academy until 2000 . Since March 2015 he has been studying business administration at the FOM University in Bonn.

Between 1991 and 1997 he was a member of the LandesjugendJazzorchester Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. He also played in the big bands of the Cologne University of Music and the University of Bonn and took part in tours through Italy, West Africa and China.

With keyboardist Nils Tegen , bassist Markus Schieferdecker and drummer Stephan Drechsler , he forms the group Jazzy * Funky * Cool , which draws on the soul and funk tradition of the 1960s and 1970s. In 2001 he came to the group Take Nat by Manfred Billmann , Stefan Werni and Manfred Portugall , which has since Take Nat plus one calls. The band, dedicated to the music of the Nat King Cole Trio , recorded the album A Beautiful Friendship in 2002 .
