Herwig Hösele

Herwig Hösele (born July 17, 1953 in Graz ) is an Austrian publicist and former politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Herwig Hösele was initially a member of the political editorial team of the Südost Tagespost published in Graz, and in 1976 he became press officer for the Styrian People's Party . During the tenure of governors Josef Krainer (1980 to 1996) and Waltraud Klasnic (1996 to 2005) he was their close associate and advisor.

After leaving politics in 2005, Hösele became involved as a coordinator in the science department of the State of Styria (among other things, as the person responsible for the Spirit & Present series of dialogues), as a publicist and secretary of the democratic reform “Initiative majority voting right” initiated in 2008, whose co-founders u. a. Gerd Bacher , Heinrich Neisser , Franz Fischler , Trautl Brandstaller , Heinrich Keller , Theodor Öhlinger and Erhard Busek were. Together with Waltraud Klasnic, he founded the consulting company Dreischritt GmbH in 2007, of which he has been managing director again since autumn 2019. He also supports Waltraud Klasnic in her work as an independent victim protection lawyer, which she took over in April 2010. From March 1, 2011 to October 2019, he was Secretary General of the Future Fund of the Republic of Austria, and has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of this fund since October. He has been executive chairman of Club Alpbach Steiermark since 1987 and chairman since 2011. He has also been a board member of the ORF since 2014 .

In June 2018 he was elected Chairman of the University Council of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz for the 2018-2023 term.

politics

From November 7, 2000 to October 24, 2005 he was a member of the Federal Council and was its President in the first half of 2003. Together with the President of the National Council, Andreas Khol , he initiated the Austria Convention on constitutional reform in 2003, the majority of which were not implemented.

He was co-founder and co-editor of the series “Politicum” and the “Styrian Yearbook for Politics” and from 1988 to 2006 he was the director of the weekly newspaper “Die Steirische (Wochenpost)”. Today he is co-designer of the series “Society & Politics” by Dr. Karl Kummer Institute and publishes in various Austrian daily and weekly newspapers.
