Pregnant Mary Ingles lives with her husband and son in a quiet place in the Blue Ridge Mountains . One day raided Shawnee - Indians the people. Many of the local residents are killed or captured by the intruders, including Mary and her son.
While in captivity, Mary has her child. Because the chief of the tribe, Wildcat, likes Mary, she is treated well, but she decides to flee. Together with a fellow prisoner, she can free herself, but she has to leave her children behind.
Mary finds her way back to her village, but fears that she will never see her children again. However, Wildcat is so impressed with Mary that he lets her children go free and they can go back to their family.
