Hi8: Resurrectio (Cover)

Steven Lindemann is a film student and is currently preparing his graduation film. He wants to make the most brutal film that has ever been made. His lecturers are less enthusiastic and mock him instead of supporting him. He's also struggling with donors. The film is also important to him because he wants to honor his brother, who disappeared two years ago. After a night of partying with his two friends, he receives a call from a friend who directs him to a mysterious website. 666Films offers young filmmakers a large sum of money for an unspecified project.

The next morning Michael is at the door and although Steven has not given his address and he has to wear a screen when driving, he drives to a remote property. With Michael is still Raphael, who for unknown reasons wears a mask made of tree bark. There are two conditions imposed on him on site: he must not ask questions and he must do what he is told. He should first film the abuse of a woman who is being held in a cage. When he refuses and asks a question, part of his ear is cut off. His two clients also turn out to be demons.

The next day one of his lecturers is presented to him and Steven is allowed to lend a hand himself. Aided by visions from his dead brother, he climbs into a bloodlust. He takes a liking to the perverse game of the two and now puts on himself. He also searches the snuff film collection of the two perverted murderers and masturbates. He is drawn deeper and deeper into the vortex of violence and is no longer an observer.

After a few days he finds a video titled "Throat Cut". There he finds his brother's murder. Together with the "Victim" he tries to flee. In the decisive confrontation, part of his right hand is cut off, but he can kill Michael and Raphael. When he tries to escape with the car, the car's speakerphone goes on and a voice can be heard. According to an incantation, he now becomes a demon himself and returns to his apartment. There he meets his two friends who have organized a party in the meantime.

background

Director Stefan Sierecki studied film directing at the Ruhr Academy in Schwerte. For his thesis, he wanted to break new ground and make a horror film instead of a drama or conflict film, as is common practice. Similar to the film character he wrote, he also encountered resistance. Eventually, however, he managed to convince his lecturers. The film is shaped by various influences, among which Sierecki counted Wes Craven , David Cronenberg and Takashi Miike , among others . With Uwe Choroba, Moloch and Oliver Troska, he was able to engage actors who are experienced in German independent film.

The film turned out very tough. Sierecki himself stated that he used about 150 liters of artificial blood . One of the jurors evaluating his thesis had to leave the room while watching the film.

The premiere of the film took place on October 22nd, 2016 in the Kino Filmriss in Gevelsberg . It was also shown at the Weekend of Fear , where it received the audience award for best feature film in 2017. In 2017 it was released on DVD on the Austrian label Black Lava Entertainment. In addition to the main film, the soundtrack on CD and seven short films were also included.

Reviews

The horror fansite 100 Years of Terror called the film Torture Porn in its review . In the thoroughly benevolent review, she suggests that “violence is in the foreground and only serves as an end in itself”. “The Gore sequences have no deeper meaning and move very specifically into focus. The story is simple and only serves as a support for depictions of violence. "
