Hichem Chaabane (born August 10, 1988 in Blida ) is a former Algerian cyclist .

Career

Chaabane finished fifth in the road race at the 2007 B World Championship in Cape Town . He represented his country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He started in the road race, which he did not finish after lapping it. At the 2008 World Championships in Varese , he finished 100th in the U23 road race.

At the African Road Cycling Championships in 2012 he won the bronze medal in the team time trial with the national team . In the same year he won his first international elite race with a stage of the Tour du Faso .

In 2013, Chaabane achieved his greatest career success with the overall ranking of the Tour International de Blida . He was also the Algerian road champion and silver medalist in the team time trial of the 2013 African Road Cycling Championships

After Chaabane had won the Circuit d'Alger , two stages and points classification of the Tour Internationale d'Oranie and one stage of the Tour International de Blida in 2015 , he was at the Tour Internationale d'Annaba , the overall winner of which he was initially honored, on EPO and Corticosteroids tested positive and then banned for four years. He was the first Algerian athlete whose doping with EPO was discovered.
