Hieronymus Bauhin (born February 26, 1637 in Basel ; † January 23, 1667 ibid) was a Swiss doctor from the Bauhin medical family .

Life

The son of Johann Caspar Bauhin and Barbara Bitot († 1646) began studying at the University of Basel in 1650 after receiving appropriate training . First he completed a degree in philosophy and in 1653 acquired the academic degree of master's degree in philosophy. Following the example of his ancestors, he then completed a medical degree, where he received his doctorate in medicine on August 3, 1658. He then went on an educational trip to the universities of Italy and France.

When he returned to his homeland in 1659, he completed his father's dissection work and was appointed professor of anatomy and botany on August 31, 1660 . In 1664 he published a revised edition of Jakob Theodor Tabernaemontanus ' book of herbs . In the same year he was appointed professor of theoretical medicine in Basel, taking over his father's lectures.

His marriage in 1664 resulted in two sons, the doctor Johann Caspar Bauhin (1665–1705) and the lawyer Johann Ludwig Bauhin (1666–1735).
