Highway (German band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Highway was a German rock band that was founded in Hamburg in 1977 . In their music, the formation also processed elements from soul , funk and folk .

Band history

The founding members Björn Werner, Eddy de Mol, Mario Martens, Jochen Brückner, Holger Zülck and Bernd Fischer received a record deal with Pinball Records in the first year of their group's existence and released the single So Close to Home . The albums Up and Down the Highway (1978) and Wheel of Fortune (1979) followed. In the meantime Martens and Werner had left Highway and Jörn Fischer joined them. Appearances in the television programs Rockpop ( ZDF ) and Record Kitchen ( WDR ) increased the popularity of Highways.

In 1980 the now nationally known band switched to WEA and the third album Heartbreaker was released , which was recorded in ABBA's Polar Music Studios in Stockholm and produced by ABBA sound engineer Michael B. Tretow . With the included song Put My Name Up in Lights , which was written by Pearson, de Mol and Brückner, Highway had an appearance in June 1981 on the ZDF show disco . After no commercial success, the group split up.

Zülck and Brückner then founded the band "Bad News Reunion", also based in Hamburg, with other musicians.
