Hilal Ercan

Hilal Ercan (* 22. August 1988 ) is a Turkish girl in 1999 at the age of ten years Hamburg without a trace disappeared . The case triggered the largest search operation in the Hanseatic city since the Second World War .

Disappear

Hilal Ercan, then ten years old, disappeared on January 27, 1999 in Hamburg-Lurup . She had brought home a good school report and was allowed to buy candy as a reward. The child left the eight-story apartment building on Elbgaustraße, where it lived with its parents and two siblings.

The girl was last seen at a nearby mall across the street at around 1:15 p.m. The father Kamil and the mother Ayla Ercan did not believe that their daughter could have simply run away. Just a few hours after the mysterious disappearance, the police initiated an ultimately futile search .

Notes and calls in the ZDF broadcast Aktenzeichen XY… unsolved and the RTL II broadcast Unexplained Murder - The perpetrator on the trail remained unsuccessful. The investigation was carried out by the “Morgenland” special commission. The fate of Hilal Ercan is unknown, despite extensive research. The authorities offered a reward of 20,000 D-Marks for the search for the girl  .

On April 27, 2005, exactly six years and three months after the day of the disappearance, the case started moving again: Dirk A. from the psychiatry of the Asklepios Klinik Nord at the Ochsenzoll location in Hamburg-Langenhorn , who had a criminal record for sex offenses against children , confessed that kidnapping and murdering the girl. The man withdrew the confession while the police were still searching the crime scene he had given. He denies the act to this day and nothing can be proven to him. However, he remains the only suspect.

At the beginning of 2018, officials of the investigation team "Cold Cases" looked for clues in the case again with a poster campaign. In September 2018, the police searched the Altona Volkspark after a new witness was found .
